Terms of Service
1. Agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and BillBahaa (“we”, “us”). They cover your use of the BillBahaa website and app (the “service”). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. The service
BillBahaa helps a group of people who eat together record a bill, claim what each person had, split shared items, service charge, and GST, and keep track of who owes whom. It can read receipt and transfer slip photos, send reminders and notifications, and show you your own spending over time.
BillBahaa is a record-keeping tool. It is not a bank, payment service, money transmitter, or accounting or tax service, and it does not hold or move money.
3. Who can use it
You must be at least 13 years old to use BillBahaa. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use it only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these terms for you.
4. Your account
- You sign in with Google, or with a username and password that was set up for you.
- Your account is for you alone. Do not share your sign-in or let others use your account.
- Use a display name that your group will recognise, and do not pretend to be someone else.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has used it, change your password or sign out of Google and email us straight away.
- Keep your details accurate, especially the bank details others use to pay you.
5. Groups
You join a group through an invite link. Invite links expire and can be withdrawn. Anyone with a valid link can join, so share it only with people you mean to invite.
Group admins can rename the group, manage places, create and withdraw invites, change members' roles, remove members, and set reminders. Members can add bills, claim items, and record payments. Everyone in a group can see the group's bills, claims, balances, payments, bank details, and photos.
You can leave a group at any time. Bills and debts you were part of stay with the group, so the remaining members' balances still add up.
6. Bills, claims, and balances
Balances are worked out from what your group enters: the bill, who paid, who took part, and who claimed each item. They are only as accurate as that information. Check your claims, and raise any mistake with your group. Figures may be rounded to the nearest laari.
A bill can be edited or deleted by the people the app allows. A deleted bill is kept with a record of who deleted it and why.
7. Payments between members
- You pay each other outside BillBahaa, in your own banking app, and then record the transfer here.
- Amounts are shown in Maldivian rufiyaa (MVR).
- You are responsible for sending the right amount to the right account, and for checking that money has arrived before you confirm a payment.
- A slip may be matched to a payment automatically. A match means the slip looks right, not that the money reached the account. If it did not arrive, flag the payment in the app within the time it allows.
- Any debt is between the members involved. We are not a party to it, cannot collect it, and do not decide disputes between members.
8. Reading photos with AI
Receipt and slip photos can be sent to Google Gemini to read the text on them. The app uses this to suggest line items, service charge, and GST, and to compare a slip with a payment. AI readings can be wrong. You review a receipt reading before it is saved, and what your group confirms is what the split uses. Do not upload a photo you are not comfortable having processed this way. You can enter a bill by hand instead.
9. Your content
“Your content” means the photos, names, bills, bank details, notes, and other information you add. You keep ownership of it. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, process, and display it, and to send it to our service providers, only as needed to run the service for you and your groups. This licence ends when your content is deleted, except for copies that are part of a shared bill your group still relies on, or backups that are cleared over time.
You confirm that you have the right to share your content with your group. In particular:
- Upload only receipts and transfer slips for bills your group actually shared.
- Add only bank accounts you own or are allowed to receive money into.
- Do not upload other people's private information unless they are part of that bill. Crop or cover anything on a photo that the group does not need to see.
10. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Access, or try to access, a group, account, or data that is not yours.
- Record false bills, claims, or payments to mislead or defraud other members.
- Use BillBahaa for anything unlawful, including money laundering or hiding the source of funds.
- Harass, threaten, or abuse other members, including through names, notes, or uploads.
- Upload malware, or content that is illegal, explicit, or infringes someone else's rights.
- Interfere with the service, overload it, probe it for weaknesses without our permission, or get around its security or limits.
- Scrape the service, use bots to access it, or copy, sell, or reverse engineer it, except where the law allows.
If you find a security problem, please tell us at [email protected] before telling anyone else.
11. Our service and brand
BillBahaa, its name, logo, design, and code belong to us. These terms let you use the service. They do not give you any other rights in it.
If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.
12. Outside services
BillBahaa relies on outside services, including Google Sign-In, Google Gemini, Supabase, Vercel, and your browser's push service. Their own terms apply to how you use them, and we are not responsible for them. If one is unavailable, parts of BillBahaa may not work.
13. Price
BillBahaa is currently free. If we start charging for any part of it, we will tell you clearly in advance and you will not be charged unless you agree.
14. Changes, availability, and ending your use
We are always working on BillBahaa, so features may change, be added, or be removed. The service may sometimes be unavailable, for example for maintenance or because an outside service is down. We may pause or stop the service, and if we stop it for good we will try to give you reasonable notice and a chance to ask for a copy of your information.
You can stop using BillBahaa at any time and ask us to delete your account by emailing [email protected].
We may suspend or close your account, or remove content, if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or if it is needed to protect other users or the service. Where it is reasonable, we will tell you why first.
Sections 7, 9, 11, and 15 to 19 continue to apply after your use ends.
15. Disclaimer
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no promises about it, express or implied, including that it will be accurate, uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or fit for a particular purpose. In particular, we do not promise that AI readings, automatic slip matches, or calculated balances are correct.
16. Limit of liability
To the extent the law allows:
- We are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for lost money, profits, or data, arising from your use of BillBahaa.
- We are not liable for a wrong split, a misread photo, a wrong match, a missed or mistaken transfer, a debt that goes unpaid, or anything another member does.
- Because the service is free, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to MVR 1,000.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that the law does not allow us to limit, and nothing takes away rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived.
17. Indemnity
To the extent the law allows, you agree to cover our reasonable costs and losses from any claim brought by someone else because of your content or because you broke these terms or the law.
18. Disputes and governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Maldives. If you have a problem with BillBahaa, please email us first and we will try to sort it out informally. If we cannot, the courts of the Maldives will decide it, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring the claim there.
19. General
- These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about BillBahaa.
- If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If we do not enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- You may not transfer your rights under these terms to anyone else. We may transfer ours if BillBahaa changes hands, and your rights will not be reduced as a result.
20. Changes to these terms
When these terms change, we update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using BillBahaa after that, you accept the new terms. If you do not, stop using the service and ask us to delete your account.
